Someone needs a math lesson.

By your own calculations, 15ºC is not 65ºF, it should be 60ºF (or quite actually 59ºF)

Wow ... if you have to explain how to figure a 15% tip like that .... it is sad.  If a person can't determine what 10 % is in a split second, that is a bad sign - and then to add an additional 5% - which is half of the 10% is stunningly simple.  Sad part is, there are a lot of people that struggle with such basic math.

If you paniced at any of these and needed this article to save you, you have bigger problems than simple math.

This was really just a trick to see how many people are too dumb to convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, right?

Why else would they do it WRONG?!?!

Here's something that works.  16 C is 61 F.  (Actually, it's 60.8, but it's an easy rule to remember.)  And then, for every 5 degrees up or down in C, add or subtract 9 degrees in F.

I really guess there are not that many people smarter than a 5th grader!

I'd like this article a lot more if it could follow its own methods.  In the temperature example, 50F does in fact equal 10C, and a change of 5C does in fact equal "about" 10F (actually 9F).  But then it gives an example of 15C, which is one change of 5C above 10C, hence one change of 10F above 50F, or 60F.  Not 65F.  And I personally don't wear shorts at either of those temperatures.  Especially not in the shade, in the wind.  Brrr.

Every single one of these "tips" is for idiots. What's really amazing is that MSN writers actually get paid for pukin this chit up.

If you keep relying on your smart phone you'll keep getting dumber and dumber. Although I doubt most of you could get any dumber.

Don't forget too ..... you tip ""only" on the pre-tax amount.  Not the total amount of the Bill with tax.

Here's one for you:  In what year did president Johnson sign America's conversion to the metric system?

Life would be so much easier if you would all just use the metric system.  Just remember a half a dozen prefixes, & you're ready to go.  Everything's in tens, hundreds, or thousands, so calculations can easily be done with a cheap, solar powered calculator small enough to fit in a shirt pocket.  Isn't that more convenient than trying to figure halfs, quarters, eighths, sixteenths, thirds, & twelths (twelvths?  Twelveths?  See what I mean?)?  Plus you have to memorize 3 different units for each linear, volume, & weight measure.  In metric, there's one of each, just apply one of the prefixes to go up or down.

BTW, the answer to my question is - 1866.  The president was Andrew Johnson.  Slow, aren't we?

When the tour group I was in was standing in the July Egyptian Sun outside the Temple of Hatshepsut, one of our group asked my what 50 degrees Celcius is in Farenheit, knowing I'm a scientist.  I didn't use the 5 and 9 rule used above.  I simply knew 9/5*50 +32.  In my head 50 divided by 5 is an easy 10. 10 times 9 is 90. 90 plus 32 is 122.  After I told him 122F I ask why.  He replied, "Because that's what that thermometer over there is the shade says!"  To go the other way it's 5/9 x the Farenheit temperature - 32 to get the Celcius temperature.

I'm a redneck,  personally if there is ice its cold and if I sweat its hot and I don't give a hoot about whether you call it Celsius or Fahrenheit and I will dress or undress accordingly!

They are not used to using their brain....but letting technology do the thinking for them......that's whay Obama got re-elected......can't think for themselves.....used to being given everything

1. going dutch, everyone throw a buck or two on the table at lunch, a couple bucks at dinner.
2. tell the Lowes guy how big the room is. If you dont know the dimensions of your room, painting is above your skill set anyway.
3. How does this save me money?
4. Your not paying for chinese leather. Its Italian leather, its gonna cost a bit more, but a lot thicker, and softer.
5.again, talk to the pros (see number 2). I doubt they will sell you a 1/4 of a cake anyway, and I doubt your guests will notice you didn't give them a full serving.
6. that info is also listed in the fine print next to the price. Wait, people dont read fine prints. just get the big pack, you can always trash the rest anyway...

The author wrote "But if the weatherman says 0 degrees? Buy a jacket--that's roughly 30 degrees Fahrenheit here.">>>Since when does anyone need "roughly" type numbers when anyone with a lick of sense knows 0 Celsius is, always has been, and always will be exactly 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

5 years ago you could just double the tx to get to 15%, now if you did that yould be closer to 25%

The Mick's last sentence is wrong. To go from Fahrenheit to Celsius you FIRST subtract 32 and THEN multiply by 5/9. Yep, it makes a difference.

To change from celsius to fahrenheit...take the Celsius number, double it and add 30. Simple

How? Why? If I know how to find the solution to all of these issues  on my phone, what is the practical knowledge of being able to do it without? Now you're saying what if you don't have your phone, or it's out of battery? Well then write an article about how to remember to charge your cell phone.

If the tax us 7.75%, doules it's 15.50 %.
